[Bayonne, NJ, January 11, 2019] Marist High School is proud to host The Valerie Fund 4th Annual Basketball Showcase on January 26-27, 2019.
The Valerie Fund Basketball Showcase is a personal mission for Ben Gamble, Marist's Head Boys' Basketball Coach. Coach Gamble found The Valerie Fund through an acquaintance whose child suffered from sickle cell anemia. The child “lived well past his projected life span due to the care of the people at the Valerie Fund,” said Coach Gamble.
Some of the top boys’ and girls’ high school basketball programs in New Jersey will be in attendance this year. In addition to Marist High School, featured schools include Union City, Ferris (Jersey City), Old Bridge, Manasquan, American History, Dickinson (Jersey City), Don Bosco, Newark West Side, The Hun School, Christian Brothers Academy, Barringer (Newark), Lyndhurst, Pleasantville, North Bergen, Long Branch, Lincoln (Jersey City), Hackensack, Rutgers Prep, Ramapo, and Newark Central.
Marist President Peter Kane said of the event, "As a young teenager in Summit (Union County) I vividly recall the formation of the Valerie Fund at Overlook Hospital in the late seventies. Many of our friends and neighbors were instrumental in raising funds for the Valerie Fund and raising overall awareness of pediatric cancer. We at Marist are honored to host this wonderful organization."
