In Memory of Gerard Scala '78

Gerard Peter Scala, 58, of Toms River (formerly of Bayonne, NJ) peacefully passed surrounded by his family at Cornell Medical Center in NYC on December 28, 2018. Jerry grew up in Bayonne and moved to Toms River 25 years ago with his wife Michilina (nee Martucci) Scala. Jerry is survived by his mother, Josephine, his wife, Michilina, and three children: Lorenzo, Adrianna and Angelo Scala. He is also survived by his brothers Domenic and Anthony Scala. Jerry was predeceased by his father, Frank Scala. Jerry attended Marist High School in Bayonne, St. Peter’s College in Jersey City and New England School of Law. He practiced law in New Jersey through his firm Gunning & Scala. He avidly played soccer in both high school and college and went on to train and coach soccer for the Professional Development Association (PDA Shore), Toms River FC and several other Toms River based youth soccer programs. He was actively involved in coaching each of his children on the Toms River Tar Heels, Hotspurs and Napoli teams and has had a great impact on many players and coaches within our community.
