Marist Makes Top 50 Private Schools for Athletes

Several private schools in sports-crazed New Jersey checked in among the top-rated in the nation for athletes, according to the 2018 Niche best school rankings.

The private schools with the best ratings for athletes came from nearly every corner of the state, from Morris, Bergen and Essex counties down to Atlantic, Camden and Burlington counties.

The yearly study has drawn criticism from some readers, but Niche.com touts its analysis as using “the most comprehensive data available on U.S. public and private K-12 schools and districts.”

The study is compiled mainly through data from the U.S. Department of Education and millions of questionnaire reviews by students and parents from New Jersey and states across the nation, according to Niche.com’s website.

The largest factor in producing the sports rankings are input from parent/student surveys on sports, followed by total high school enrollment, number of sports offered and boys and girls participation in sports, the website said.

You can see a detailed breakdown of how the athletes rankings are compiled here. Niche.com explains its methodology further here.

“We rigorously analyze data and over 60 million K-12 school reviews and survey responses to help families find the right school for them,” the Niche.com website says.

We included national rankings for the top 20 private school sports programs in New Jersey. From there, we included each school’s overall school grade — which factors in academics, teachers, diversity and more — to provide additional information.
