On Saturday, October 10, volunteers from LyondellBasell, a manufacturing company located in Newark, NJ, and Marist High School came together to construct a new dance studio for the school as part of their Global Care Day. The dance studio is available to all students, but is specifically used by the Marist Dance Team and Fine Arts Department.
LyondellBasell is a global company with 57 sites in 18 countries. Every year, each manufacturing plant is involved in LyondellBasell’s Global Care Day, where they volunteer their time and resources in projects throughout their communities. This is the second year that LyondellBasell has chosen Marist High School as their project site.
“We are so happy LyondellBasell has helped us create spaces for all of our students to use. The Turf Room they created last year has multiple uses at the school, including home to the archery and ping-pong clubs. We couldn’t be happier with the work that LyondellBasell has done for us,” said Head of School Alice Miesnik.
The event was organized by Marist Director of Transportation and Facilities, Mark Lenzo, and his son-in-law Mario Paparozzi, who is a Lab & Materials Technician at the Newark location. As part of the event, almost all of the work is completed that day by the volunteers. About 25 volunteers painted the walls and pillars of the studio along with building the entire dance floor with assistance and training by members of LyondellBasell.
This is just one story of how different groups and individuals have been representing the #GivingTuesday Spirit all year at Marist. Give back today by participating in our #GivingTuesday Campaign!
