Marist among 50 best NJ private high schools for sports
Private schools from all across New Jersey checked in with some of the nation's top-rated sports programs in the latest 2019 Niche best school rankings, proving once again the Garden State knowns what it's doing when it comes to athletics.
The schools that made the rankings represent nearly every county in the state and include some of the most storied sports programs in New Jersey history.
Plus, there's a new No. 1 private school sports program. (Hint: It's a school in Essex County.)
The yearly study is compiled mainly through data from the U.S. Department of Education and millions of questionnaire reviews by students and parents from New Jersey and states across the nation, according to Niche.com's website.
The biggest factor in the rankings are input from parent/student surveys on sports, total school enrollment, number of sports offered and boys and girls participation in sports, the website said.
Although these rankings are solely based on athletics, we included each school's overall school grade — which factors in academics, teachers, diversity and more — to provide an extra layer of information.
We also listed national rankings for schools rated in the top 1,500 nationally, and added a "movement" category to show how much a school went up or down in the rankings compared to 2018.
Marist High School ranks #48.
