Marist Students to Attend Summer Scholars Program

Marist High School sophomore students Madeleine Ramos, Amro Elhalim and Clinton Ogega will attend the Summer Scholars Program at St. Peter’s College.

Madeleine Ramos will study Psychology and Literature. In this course, Madeleine will learn to consider mental health from an analytical viewpoint of psychology and the descriptive viewpoint of literature. This class will match up psychological theories with novels and short stories through lecture, critical discussion, role play and film. This course will be taught by St. Peters’ College professors, Dr. Jennifer Ayala, Department of Education and Dr. Kristina Chew, Department of Modern and Classical Languages.

Amro Elhalim and Clinton Ogega will study Civilization and Disease. Amro and Clinton will survey the impact of disease on human history. In this course, they will consider topics such as the Black Death versus Nuclear War, the evolutionary correlation between malaria and sickle cell anemia, and similarities and differences between the 1918 Spanish Flu and present- day avian flu. This course will be taught by St. Peter’s College professors, Dr. Richard Petriello, Department of Biology and Dr. Jerome Gillen, Department of History.
