16th Annual Blue & Gold Alumni Golf Classic
The Marcellin Champagnat Service Award is named for the founder of the Marist Brothers, St. Marcellin Champagnat. The award is conferred to those who have dedicated themselves to fulfilling the vision and mission of Marcellin Champagnat: to educate children and prepare them for life. Marist High School is proud to present The Marcellin Champagnat Service Award to James E. Collins, a graduate of Marist’s class of 1967.
Mr. Collins began a successful banking career in 1972 by joining a hometown bank, First Savings Bank of New Jersey. He rose from Assistant Loan Officer in 1972 to Senior Lender in 1980. He remained with First Savings until its sale in 1999. In 2000, Jim was one of the founding members of BCB Community Bank, one of the most successful DeNovo Banks in New Jersey. In addition to being a founding member, he was appointed Vice President and Senior Lender of the management team. He currently manages a portfolio of over $400 million.
A life-long Bayonne resident, Jim has also been involved in his community. Following college he became the Citywide Director and Coordinator of the C.Y.O. programs, which included boys and girls basketball leagues and boys baseball in the spring.
Some of Mr. Collin’s other community involvements include: Past Board member and Treasurer of the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce; Past President of Ireland’s 32; Past Board member of the Board of Directors of the Windmill Alliance, a non-profit organization for developmentally disabled adults; and a member of the Bayonne 2000 committee.
Mr. Collins currently serves as an executive Board member and Treasurer of the Bayonne Education Foundation; member of the Marist High School Directorate and member of the Marist Hall of Fame selection committee; and a member of the Board of Directors of BCB Bancorp.
Son of the late William and Bridget Collins, Jim is married to Debbie (Stein) and is the proud father of three children, Philip, Susan and Jennifer and one grandson, Jaedyn. He has 2 brothers, William and Peter, Class of 1971.
